Visiting the Island in your own yacht or boat gives you even more freedom to take things at your own pace, with the 15 nautical mile trip from Cairns offering a safe passage along the scenic coastline.
At Fitzroy Island, you’ll find secure moorings and anchorage in naturally sheltered waters for private vessels. These are located in on the right side of the Jetty (with Fitzroy Island in front of you) and are RED.
Public moorings are located on the left side of the Jetty at Latitude 16 deg 93.0S, Longitude 145 deg 98.6E and are BLUE & WHITE

Fitzroy Island Mooring Terms and Conditions
1. Booking and Payment
- All mooring bookings require full payment at the time of reservation.
- Mooring bookings are non-transferable and non-refundable. No refunds will be
provided for cancellations.
2. Mooring Allocation
- A designated mooring will be allocated upon booking.
- All vessels must remain on their designated mooring for the duration of their booking.
3. Vessel Requirements
- Mooring usage is subject to restrictions, including maximum vessel size (xx) and weight. It is the responsibility of the mooring user to ensure their vessel complies with these restrictions.
4. Safety and Security
- Mooring users are responsible for the safety and security of their vessel while moored at Fitzroy Island. Fitzroy Island is not liable for any damage, theft, or loss of property or vessels.
- Mooring users are responsible for their own safety and should take necessary precautions. Fitzroy Island is not liable for any injuries or accidents that may occur during the mooring period.
5. Environmental and Behavioral Guidelines
- Mooring users must adhere to all environmental protection regulations and guidelines set forth by Fitzroy Island and relevant authorities.
- Jetty loading time is limited to 15 minutes. Guests must not block scheduled ferries and must unload promptly.
- Motor/paddle boats and jet skis are not allowed on the beach. Guests may use paddle boards, kayaks, or swim.
- Jet skis can purchase moorings and must abide by the 5 knot speed limit from the markers and on departure (no wash).
- Excessive noise and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Respect the tranquility of the island and other guests.
6. Assistance and Support
- Fitzroy Island cannot assist with boat maintenance, fuel issues, or other personal boat problems. For such issues, guests should contact the coast guard directly.
7. Adverse Weather Conditions
- In the event of adverse weather conditions that pose a safety risk, Fitzroy Island reserves the right to temporarily close or restrict access to moorings. No refunds will be provided in such cases.
8. Amendments
- Fitzroy Island reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time without prior notice. It is the mooring user's responsibility to review the Terms regularly.
By making a mooring reservation, you acknowledge and agree to abide by these Terms and any additional guidelines or rules provided by Fitzroy Island Resort. Failure to adhere to these Terms may result in eviction without refund.
